We examined the association of LpPLA2 activity and ApoC3 LOF mutations and incident cardiovascular disease (CVD) (defined as coronary heart disease [CHD] plus ischemic stroke) and all-cause mortality in the biracial longitudinal Atherosclerosis Risk In Communities (ARIC) study.
Results APOA1 rs670 CT/TT genotypes, APOA5 rs662799 AG/GG genotypes, and the APOC3rs2854116 CC genotype were associated with an increased risk of ischemic stroke according to multivariate logistic analysis after adjusting for confounding factors.
Hence, this meta-analysis aimed to infer the causal relationships of APOA5 (rs662799, rs3135506), APOB (rs693, rs1042031, rs1801701), APOC3 (rs4520, rs5128, rs2854116, rs2854117) and ABCA1 rs2230806 with ischemic stroke risk.
Conclusions- These findings suggest that a high Apo CIII plasma concentration may predict an increased risk of ischemic stroke/TIA in cardiovascular patients.
